A Special Thanks to The Injury Board

The Injury Board is an association of experienced trial lawyers practicing throughout the United States and parts of Canada. This organization not only requires professional excellence from its members, but also it demands its members demonstrate community involvement and social responsibility.

The Injury Board provided substantial support toward the 2012 Student Awareness Initiative. In response, Joel Feldman sent the following letter of thanks on behalf of the Casey Feldman Memorial Foundation to the Injury Board:

Dear Tom and Mason and everyone at the Injury Board,

Di and I can’t thank you enough for all that you have done for us and the distracted driving campaign. You are really great at what you do—especially advancing the ROI concept and bringing people together to share and connect—and wonderfully kind and compassionate human beings. Di and I now have so many new opportunities to help others, in large part as a result of your taking our local distracted driving presentation and making it a North American initiative.

You know that Casey had an incredible ability to be empathic and encouraged everyone to tell his or her story. One might say that the story of this campaign is that two Philadelphia trial lawyers lost their daughter to distracted driving, and when presented with an opportunity to help, trial lawyers from across the country and Canada—everyone in the whole Injury Board community—stepped forward to help.

I still can’t believe the numbers. This year we reached out to 35,000 students, and I have no doubt that we will reach 100,000 next year. How can we ever thank adequately all of those trial attorneys who have chosen to help in this campaign? Casey’s story is being told and it is making a difference for the teens who hear it, and for their families.

I also know that telling Casey’s story is making a difference for those who hear our presentations. We get them driving more safely, of course, but they also learn lessons about valuing life and relationships and holding those we love just a bit closer. That is so gratifying to us, as we know that life and health are gifts and are not guaranteed to last long.

Di and I stand in awe at your generosity of spirit. Your willingness to commit your resources—both financial contributions and time, that most limited commodity—have been incredible. We are so honored to be the recipients of the Injury Board 2012 Community Outreach Award. I know that because of who you are and the importance that you place on service, there will be many more wonderful recipients of this award.

We feel honored to be a part of the Injury Board “community,” and we deeply respect how you have created that community.

We feel Casey’s loss every day. Even now, almost three years after her death, we know that we will feel the pain of her loss every day for the rest of our lives. Doing something good in Casey’s memory is, on some days, all that we have that is positive and hopeful and that provides meaning. For parents who have lost children we are so very fortunate for these opportunities.

To paraphrase Victor Frankel: while there is nothing good in misfortune, certainly good can come out of misfortune

Thank you again for allowing us to remember Casey in such a special way.

Joel D. Feldman
