Speaking Up and Insisting On Commercial Drivers Driving Safer Changes Driver’s Behavior and Possibly An Entire Company’s
Joel Feldman takes distracted driving very seriously since the death of his daughter Casey by a distracted driver 2 years ago. On recent trip from an airport a shuttle driver, with a van full of passengers, decided to program his route while driving. Joel had his video camera with him and took this footage. Ultimately Joel stopped videoing and asked the driver to stop programming and concentrate on driving. The other passengers in the van chimed in and also expressed concern for their safety. The driver was very polite and stopped programming his GPS.
Joel contacted the management of the shuttle company, explained the situation and his personal interest and the shuttle company was very responsive and is initiating steps to better train their drivers and to enforce existing rules to promote traffic safety. Joel hopes to be able to share those changes in the future.
