Numerous events were planned to help youth leaders from across the country develop distracted driving prevention programs that they can take back to their local communities. Educational programs, experiential programs and focus groups are among the many events planned for the teen leaders.
The teens were sent out in teams to observe traffic in Washington , particularly as it relates to pedestrian safety.
NOYS has selected great youth leaders and provides them with an opportunity to meet with other dedicated teens, safety professionals and families that have been affected by distracted driving, to exchange ideas and develop strategies for reducing crashes and tragedies in their own communities. 
Joel Feldman, founder of EndDD.org and father of Casey Feldman who was killed by a distracted driver, spoke with the teens and invited guests about how he has worked to reduce distracted driving and discussed the EndDD.org presentation, offering it to the teens to use, and also offering lawyer or health care providers to come into their schools and help students raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving in their communities.
Joel said “I look forward to working with many of these exceptional student leaders. Meeting many of them and talking about distracted driving helped me better understand some of the challenges we face in changing teen driving behaviors. Most of the teens also shared that their parents drive distracted- I know that our driving culture needs to change and am convinced that change will come from the efforts of young people like these NOYS Youth Leaders.”
