US Secretary of Transportation Ray La Hood announced that fourteen-year old Hah’mari Watson of Sanford, Florida, was the winner of the Distracted Driving Design Contest for creating the “Text & Wreck” icon. Hah’mari had been involved in a motor vehicle crash with family members and it prompted her to enter the contest.
Numerous events were planned to help youth leaders from across the country develop distracted driving prevention programs that they can take back to their local communities.
In Its Community to Prevent Distracted Driving Deaths and Injuries Morgan Robinson, Injury Prevention Coordinator and Educator for Borgess Trauma Services in Kalamazoo, Michigan has been working with the Casey Feldman Foundation and EndDD.org to speak with local high school students about distracted driving.
More than 50,000 teens have seen the EndDD.org high school distracted driving presentation across the country. All of the speakers report that parents are not role modeling safe driving behaviors for their teens.
