The Casey Feldman Memorial Foundation will be sponsoring Slippery Rock University student, Alyssa Messett as she competes in the Miss USA Pennsylvania state pageant December 2nd through December 4th. Alyssa will be competing with Distracted Driving as her platform.
Alyssa became an advocate for the cause following the death of her good friend Ashley who lost her life in April as a result of texting while she was driving. Ashley, who was 19, lost control of her vehicle on the highway and hit a tree.
Suffering a devastating loss, at such a young age, Alyssa set out to stop other teens from losing their lives, and their friends to distracted driving. She has brought awareness to her community, and is working to set up programs in area schools.
If Alyssa wins the Miss USA Pennsylvania pageant, she will be able to compete with young women throughout the country in next year’s Miss USA Pageant, and will have the chance to raise awareness to a wider audience and educate teens throughout the country on the dangers of distracted driving.
