The New Jersey State Police released its fatality crash statistics for 2014, reflecting a 3.9% increase in highway fatalities in 2013 by 21 victims, bringing the total to 563 up from 542 in 2013. While driver, passenger and pedacyclists fatalities all decreased from 2013, the number of pedestrians killed spiked by 28%. In 2013, 132 pedestrians were killed; that number jumped to 170 in 2014.
Approximately half of the pedestrian fatalities were older than 50, 7 were under 16 years- old, and 33 were between 17 and 29.
