Turning Adversity Casey Feldman Memorial Foundation has announced the winners of the The National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS) second annual Youth – Turn it Around Awards Program. YOUTH-Turn is a program of the National Organizations for Youth Safety® (NOYS®), sponsored by the Casey Feldman Memorial Foundation and supported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The Youth-Turn It Around Awards encourages youth organizations to turn adversity or tragedy into positive action in their schools and communities. This year’s winners created programs and campaigns that addressed seat belt safety, distracted driving, and impaired driving. Using Youth-Turn resources all of the organizations created campaigns that created awareness and educated peers on critical road safety issues. Six winners, two in each age category were awarded cash prizes.
The winning organizations were:
- Grand Prize, University, $2000 Award – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Peer Health Educators of North Dartmouth, MA, and organization of the BACCHUS Network for Safe Rides Program
- Runner Up, University, $1000 Award – Colorado Mountain College PEAK Performance of Glenwood Springs, CO, an organization of the BACCHUS Network – Click It For Steph
- Grand Prize, High School, $2000 Award – East Buchanan High School’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter for Share the Road campaign
- Runner Up, High School, $1000 Award – The Howells-Clarkson Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter was awarded $1000 for “Buckle Up! project
- Grand prize, Middle School, $2000 – The MASK and Boy Scouts of America organizations of Gilbert, AZ for TXTING KILLS
- Runner Up, Middle School, $1000 Award – The Birmingham City Swagg Committee of Birmingham, AL for Teen Traffic Safety Adversity
